Physical and chemical properties:
White or yellowish powder. Slowly dissolved in water, forming a viscous solution, insoluble in ethanol, chloroform or ether. Odorless and tasteless. The pH value of 1% aqueous solution is 6-8. The viscosity is stable at pH value of 6-9, and the viscosity decreases when heated to above 80 C. The product is hygroscopic. It is a very strong hydrophilic polymer.
Chemical colorless or yellowish fine particles or powdered solids. It is insoluble in organic solvents such as ethanol, ether and chloroform.
It is used as sizing agent and printing paste for textiles. It is widely used in food industry as thickener, stabilizer and emulsifier.
Sodium Alginate is widely used in the printing and dyeing industry, which is mainly used as: 1. sodium alginate, a dyeing agent for reactive dyes, is used as a reactive dyestuff pulp in the printing and dyeing industry, which is superior to grain starch and other slurry. The printed fabrics have vivid patterns, clear lines, high chromaticity, uniform color, good permeability and plasticity. Seaweed gum is the best slurry in modern printing and dyeing industry. It is now widely used in printing of various fabrics, such as cotton, wool, silk, nylon, and so on. It is especially suitable for the preparation of dyed printing pulp. 2. warp sizing in China’s textile department is mixed with seaweed glue or starch or instead of starch to make warp sizing. It can not only save a lot of grain, but also make the warp yarn less wool, friction resistance, and less broken end rate, thus improving the efficiency of weaving. Seaweed gum is effective for both cotton and synthetic fibers. 3. sodium alginate will not react with reactive dyes. It is the ideal raw material to modulate reactive dye paste. In the printing of reactive dyes, the color of the printing is high, the fine print of the printed pattern is clear and the permeability is good, especially the large flower, and the color is uniform. And because it is soluble in water, it is easy to wash, the printing feel soft, and the color paste adhered to the flower tube and screen when printing is easy to remove.
1. sodium alginate is a highly viscous macromolecule compound. Its difference from starch and cellulose is that it has carboxyl group, which is the glucuronic acid formed by the glycoside bond of aldehyde -D- of the mannose glucuronic acid.
